Artist's Comments

This was probably the most fun project I was given in the first semester of University; just because it is, after all, my first year and we study only basic fundamentals which I feel the majority of was review... Anyway, It was for University's Colour and 2D Design class. Students were given the task of designing a butterfly constructed in the style of distinct prominent artists (most of which were dead). And so, I pulled H.R. Giger  out of the hat.

The print I handed in was not returned to me by my professor but was put into a gallery, as I've been told. :)

Unfortunately, given the little time I was provided to work on this assignment as a result of a heavy workload(and possibly my excessive need for sleep), it is obviously unfinished, awkward, and unrefined in some areas and will remain such.

Beautiful... Just stunning. Seriously, I'm not quite sure what to say. Wonderful. I mean.... >_< Sorry, I'm not used to dealing with this level of awesome. Suffice to say that I like it a lot.

... I see nipple... XD Nice, I like the metallic look who've mustard from the blues. I think the middle eye inbetween the wings is the most giger than the prettier ones on the ends of the wings. Though the four legs is A++!!! Nice painting.

Hahaha! Wow. Thank you very much. ^^; I'm glad you like it; that is very encouraging.

I don't think you will see much more of this kind of work, but if you enjoy the style, I worked from Giger's distinct stylistic attributes to attempt the assignment. You might want to have a look at his works-- very awe-inspiring; at least I feel. Of course, I've probably learnt a thing or two about technique and likely will incorporate that in future works.

Sylvia ~ Thank you!! I'm also extremely happy with how the legs came out. Anyway, my intentions were to finish off and edit the wings so that it would be entirely giger-esque. Ho hum! But maybe... just maybe, I'll come back to it and finish. Hoohoohoo!

Sorry if I sounded a bit.... odd. ^^; I just looked at it and thought, "This picture is filled with delicate victory." (I know, I think strangely =P) I'd love to see anything else you do that uses any of the techniques used here.

I've always liked Giger's work - wonderfully detailed and with some inspiring subject matter.

Hey... this is really cool. When we had an assignment to imitate another artist's style in first year, the hat was full of people like Van Gogh or Rubin >.>

I agree, first year seemed to be incredibly moot in many regards (except for the design courses). Second year is proving to be *much* more awesome though.

Hurrah flor sleepless nights and having equal workload to med school students!
